Potentially deadly beech tree disease affecting Northeast Ohio

Lake Metroparks Biologist John Pogacnik first noticed it in 2012. He was amid a routine health check of the park system's Paradise Road property in Painesville Township when he noticed some beech trees appeared to be stressed. They had striping on the leaves and some were shriveled. When he searched the Internet for beech diseases, he found nothing. He chaled up their condition to the location on a dry slope. However, he found similar trees a couple of month laster at Girdled Road Reservation. Still nothing on the Net. Little did he know at the time that he had made a discovery.
