Located in Wingene, Belgium, the National Lagerstroemia & Laurus Arboretum houses a world-class living collection dedicated to the preservation, evaluation, and showcasing of the genera Lagerstroemia and Laurus. Spanning well over 100 fully documented and labeled woody plant taxa, the arboretum serves as a critical evaluation and trial site for testing climate resilience, winter hardiness, and disease resistance within the West-European maritime climate zone.

The arboretum’s Lagerstroemia collection stands out for its exceptional taxonomic depth. It features an extensive genetic reservoir of approximately 300 taxa, prominently showcasing the legendary historic selections of Dr. Donald Egolf (from the U.S. National Arboretum), alongside rare and diverse botanical variations of Lagerstroemia subcostata and Lagerstroemia fauriei. Complementing this is a historically significant and unique collection of over 40 distinct Laurus nobilis cultivars and related species (such as Laurus novocanariensis). This includes the traditional certified regional ‘Flemish Laurel’ and the proprietary ‘Muses of Alloro’ series, preserved as pristine structural topiary specimens.
