The Art Complex Museum Arboretum is a living collection of trees and woody plants on the Museum’s 13-acre campus at 189 Alden Street in Duxbury, Massachusetts. It brings together fields, woods, gardens, and a small pond in a setting where visitors can experience art and nature side by side. The Arboretum seeks to inspire a deeper connection between the creative spirit and the natural world by cultivating and preserving native trees and shrubs, while introducing visitors to the botanical heritage of New England and beyond. It builds upon the Museum’s mission to create a place of curiosity, beauty, and learning.

Since the Museum opened in 1971, outdoor sculptures and murals have extended the gallery experience into the landscape, encouraging visitors to encounter art within a changing natural environment. The Arboretum will preserve and care for the campus’s established trees and gardens, add and maintain a thoughtful diversity of native and exotic species, and provide opportunities to learn about tree care and environmental stewardship. The Japanese Tea Garden further expresses the relationship between nature and cultural practice. Through interpretation, educational programs, and events that celebrate trees, the Arboretum will foster appreciation for the living landscape surrounding the Museum’s galleries, sculpture, and Tea House.
