Brandon Elementary

The Brandon Arboretum spans the 8 acre grounds of Brandon Elementary School in Goleta California.   Urban Forestry nonprofit Your Childrens Trees planted dozens of different tree species over several decades to create an outdoor educational opportunity.   “We love our trees!” said Brandon Principal Sheryl Miller. “Our beautiful, mature trees are such an important part of what makes Brandon special. They provide wonderful shade, beauty, and a welcoming environment for their students and families.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN) lists two tree species at Brandon that are widely cultivated but are critically endangered in their native range. Quercus tomentella is the rarest of California Oaks, endemic to only 5 California islands and Guadalupe Island off the west coast of California.  Also, Pinus torreyana subspecies Santa Rosa only grow on Santa Rosa Island off the coast of California where a 2026 wildfire destroyed almost 80% of the total tree population.
