Bryan Park

Description

Bryan Park, often called the “Crown Jewel” of the Bloomington Park System is a nearly 35 acre park centrally located in Bloomington Indiana. Containing nearly 400 inventoried trees, a public pool, three shelter houses, three playgrounds, two sport fields and almost a mile long loop trail lined with trees that make up our self-guided tree tour.

Purchased by the City in 1959 as a mostly vacant field it has evolved over the last 65 years into a place of recreation, peace, fun and well-being. Some trees of note are the largest known Cladrastis kentukea on city owned property in Bloomington, a specimen Quercus velutina, several 40+ DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) specimen ash trees, which have been treated to survive the Emerald ash borer. Current inventory denoted 60 different species, with hopes on the horizon of planting even more.
