Emerald Valley Arboretum is a 12 acre property located in the city of Old Brooklyn, 5 miles from the public square of downtown Cleveland, Ohio. This unique property, has over 60 deciduous trees, conifers and woody plants, many over 100 years old. These include a Cucumber tree, Birch trees, Japanese Redgood Maples, and Rhododendron. On the property is an 1840’s farmhouse which serves as the headquarters of the arboretum. The home and property have been maintained since the early 1900’s by 5 generations of the Speed/Young families.
The purpose of the Emerald Valley Arboretum is to continue to maintain the property and acreage in perpetuity for people interested in visiting and viewing the flora and fauna along an 800 foot walking trail which overlooks a ravine. On Arbor Day, seedlings from many of the trees will be given to visitors. In addition, interaction with the community, including conducted tree walks, will be an integral part of the arboretum’s purpose.
