Evergreen Cemetery and Arboretum is a historic municipal cemetery located in Gainesville, Florida, serving as both a place of remembrance and a growing urban tree collection. As a public green space, the arboretum reflects the ecological diversity of North Central Florida while supporting the City of Gainesville’s broader urban forestry and sustainability goals.
The collection includes a mix of mature canopy trees and newly planted native species, with an emphasis on long-lived heritage specimen such as live oaks, bluff oaks, southern magnolia, red cedar, longleaf pine, and other native trees. Over time, the site has become an outdoor classroom, hosting urban forestry workshops, Arbor Day celebrations, and community tree-planting events. As the arboretum grows, we are intentionally expanding our native tree representation and improving tree labeling, and public engagement to elevate the site as both a cultural and ecological asset.
