Hendrix College Arboretum

Campus trees contribute significantly to the beautiful landscape for which Hendrix College is known.  This emphasis on the natural beauty of the campus began in the College’s first year in Conway.  Trees also serve as a living laboratory supporting students in biology and environmental studies courses as well as for the local community.  The arboretum supports the Hendrix goals of active and life-long learning across the liberal arts.

Tree diversity is important for the support of native and naturalized species and the non-native species.  A long-term goal is to contain as many native tree species as possible along with interesting naturalized and non-native species.  Currently, approximately 150 species can be found on campus. Campus trees have an attached metal tag with an identification number that can be looked up on the Hendrix Arboretum website site that identifies the tree’s scientific name and common name and includes a photo of the tree.
