Jefferson Memorial Cemetery
Jefferson Memorial Cemetery, Funeral Home, Crematory & Arboretum, also known as Jefferson Memorial Park, was founded in 1929 by Harry Campbell Neel, a graduate of Yale University with a master’s degree in forestry. One of Western PA's grand arboretum's, the cemetery was designed to be a Memorial Park, with no tombstones to mar the beauty of the sweeping lawns. The once humble parcel of rolling hills and farm land is still home to green knolls and acres of shaded lawns - as well as over 30 species of native plant life distinctive to Western Pennsylvania - but also numerous, evocative structural pieces. Jefferson Memorial has 180 developed acres. They have a collection of more than 5,000 trees and shrubs throughout the cemetery grounds. Rich in biodiversity, our arboretum collection currently contains over 200 distinct species, cultivars or varieties of trees and shrubs, including 50 North American native species, 20 unique conifers and 14 varieties of oaks.
