Lenape Arboretum - PV Woods
Lenape Arboretum - PV Woods covers over 30 acres on the Main Campus of Perkiomen Valley School District and encompasses an almost entire watershed that flows into the Perkiomen Creek. Lenape Arboretum is named in honor of the Lenape people. They lived in this region of Pennsylvania for over 10,000 years. They were also the first tribal nation to sign a treaty with the United States. There are 45 identified tree species which are nearly all native. Other features include a rain garden and bog area. Perkiomen is a Lenape word that means ‘place of the cranberries’. We are in a partnership with the Delaware Tribe of Indians (Oklahoma) to share about Lenape history and culture through our natural environment. We share the Lenape name, if available, for every identified tree.
