Muhlenberg Woods - PV Woods
Muhlenberg Woods - PV Woods covers over 46 acres of a forest on the West Campus of Perkiomen Valley School District. Muhlenberg Woods is named in honor of Henry Muhlenberg (1753-1815), the first American botanist, who was born in Trappe, PA, a municipality within Perkiomen Valley School District. A bog turtle, oak tree, and sweet grass are all named in his honor. There are 35 identified tree species which are nearly all native. Other features include a rain garden and a colonial era gravesite. Perkiomen is a Lenape word that means ‘place of the cranberries’. We are in a partnership with the Delaware Tribe of Indians (Oklahoma) to share about Lenape history and culture through our natural environment. We share the Lenape name, if available, for every identified tree.
