Oceanside Arboretum

Description

Oceanside Arboretum is located within the Oceanside UFSD in Long Island, New York.  What started as a small garden in the 80’s has blossomed into a thriving collection of plant species. Some notable features in our space include our collection of Oak Trees, a sole Dawn Redwood, as well as an Outdoor Research Center.  The only living species of its genus, the Dawn Redwood holds an interesting place in the history of paleobotany as one of the few living plants known first as a fossil.  It is considered critically endangered.  Students within the school district learn about different local and invasive flora and fauna and even conduct scientific experiments in the space.
