Pittsburgh Botanic Garden

Description

Pittsburgh Botanic Garden is nestled in the Western Allegheny Plateau on 460 acres of land with a rich and fascinating story. Opened in 2015, the Garden welcomes visitors to explore their connection with plants and the Garden’s context in place and history – from coal formation to whiskey to industrial revolution. Core gardens include the Garden of the Five Senses, the Hillside Pollinator Garden, the Margaret Lawrence Simon Dogwood Meadow and a peaceful and vibrant pond garden with an award-winning acid mine drainage treatment system at its center.

Pittsburgh Botanic Garden has over 3000 accessions, including over 300 unique woody taxa. The Garden’s primary collection is geographically themed on the surrounding Western Allegheny Plateau ecoregion. The Garden has a Cornus collection, which includes over 500 in-situ Flowering Dogwoods (Cornus florida). The management of our collections demonstrates ecological landscaping, restoration, and naturalistic design principles.
