Plymouth Place
Located on 17 acres in LaGrange Park, IL the arboretum surrounds a retirement community hosting 438 residents who are active in its management and community engagement. The arboretum has over 360 trees with 36 different species including Oak, Maple, River Birch, Ginkgo, Sweetgum, Tuliptree, and Tupelo to name a few. The signature trees include a mature stand of Baldcypress surrounding the pond and a 36” caliper Ginkgo tree estimated to be 100 years old. In addition to the trees and other woody ornamentals they have a heritage garden where residents transplanted perennials to be preserved from recent construction activities and the garden walls are faced with bricks salvaged from the cottage homes. Plymouth place is also home to a half-acre roof garden host to numerous shrubs, perennials, and other butterfly friendly plants.
