Pontis Arboretum

Created in 2026 with help from the French Ministry of Ecological Transition, the Pontis Arboretum is a campus collaboration between the Language and Culture Department, the MakerSpace and the General Services department of the graduate engineering school, Ecole nationale des ponts et chaussées founded in 1747.

Launched within the framework of the English course, Campus Greens, students observed the 4-hectare space, identified species and sought to raise awareness and preserve biodiversity in their rich campus environment. Striking a balance between natural harmony and the workplace, elements of the arboretum’s mission include: to encourage students to discover and respect nature, and thus, to create a responsible community and to extend bridges between people and nature in order to provide a place of beauty and peace, where exchange, well-being and environmental respect are the keywords for a better future.

The Pontis Arboretum’s orchard contains several heritage fruit tree varieties such the apple varieties, Calville Blanc d’hiver and the Reinette de France; the pear, ‘Comtesse de Paris’; the plum ‘Goutte d’or de Coe’ and the cherry, ‘Coeur de Verberie’, as well as several beaked hazelnuts, ‘Noisetier à long bec’ and French common walnuts, ‘Juglans regia’.
