Red Ridge Nature Preserve is a thermal refuge and time capsule of Oklahoma’s natural ecosystem and a haven for wildlife. Conservation of this habitat enables them to preserve a historic part of Oklahoma City’s botanical heritage, the Cross Timbers. The Cross Timbers forest is where the deciduous forests of the eastern part of the state meet the grasslands of the western part of the state. These two habitats converge in the heart of Oklahoma City at Red Ridge Nature Preserve. The Preserve features numerous old-growth tree stands of post oak and blackjack oak, along with a diverse array of other woody plants, wildflowers, and native grass species. In the future, a space for nature education will take shape, including areas for tree conservation, nature education, and art exhibitions.
