The Roots & Stars Arboretum at Los Robles-Ronald McNair Academy showcases the climate resilient, urban trees of the San Francisco Bay Area with an emphasis on environmental and food systems education. It is an outdoor education space to foster student engagement and connection with nature and each other
Los Robles-Ronald McNair Academy is a TK-5 Spanish-English dual language immersion public school that seeks to cultivate an outdoor learning environment where students and community members engage directly with nature. The Roots & Starts Arboretum will serve as a living classroom that fosters community, curiosity, stewardship, and a scientific understanding of the natural world.
The Roots & Stars Arboretum is, at its core, a community forest. The school community was engaged in the creation of the arboretum every step of the way — from students learning about it in their classes, to physically planting the trees, to creating labels and excitedly tagging them. This arboretum was created by and for students, and has already begun to enrich their lives each and every school day.
