South Hills Park Arboretum

Resting on 160 acres of rolling hills, South Hills Park is simply the ideal of peace and tranquility. There is a mighty lone wolf red oak that boasts an age of over 200 years. There is a growing dawn redwood grove on the edge of the property that will age into a beautiful sight. The dawn redwood grove nests many collections of specimens. There is a collection of southern magnolias, ginkgos, weeping beeches, Gordlinia, Franklinia, Hinoki cypress, hydrangeas, and many dogwoods within the dawn redwood grove. There is also a stunning trio of ailanthus trees that creates a brilliant canopy. Although ailanthus can be highly invasive, these specimens produce no seeds and contribute an interesting addition to the landscape.
