The Chautauqua Bird, Tree and Garden Club Arboreta

The Chautauqua Bird, Tree and Garden Club Arboreta at the Chautauqua Institution (CI) was originally established in 1915 for the propagation and diversification of trees. Under the direction of the CI Supervisor of Gardens and Landscapes, the Arboretum has been made a place of tree diversity and a showcase for under-tree shade plants. The Bird, Tree and Garden Club works closely with CI’s Gardens and Landscapes Department to make the Arboretum a place for visitors and residents to learn tree and plant identification. The trees, shrubs and plants of the Arboretum are permanently labelled with common and scientific names, thereby also serving as a valuable resource for regional school children and their teachers.
