Description
Situated on five acres in historic Independence, Missouri, is the Vaile Mansion Arboretum. The arboretum is a setting of historic significance and beauty reminiscent of the Victorian era. The collection includes the Missouri State Champion Smoketree (Cotinus obovatus), Liberty Elm (Ulmus americana ‘Liberty’) from the Elm Research Institute, and an allée of 30 Sugar Maples (Acer saccharum). Many native trees dot the landscape and the lilac collection (one of Mr. Vaile’s favorites) is currently being expanded to accentuate the Victorian charm at this unique property.
