Waraira Repano Park
The arboretum is on the remains of an old coffee plantation, located on the Northern Slope of Waraira Repano Park. They have identified the most representative native species of the Cordillera de la Costa, such as the Indio Desnudo (Bursera simaruba), Araguaney (Handroanthus chrysanthus), Bucare(Erythrina poeppigiana), and Pardillo (Cordia alliodora), among others. The goal is to promote environmental education as an interpretive activity, meaning to use recreational experiences to foster environmental values, always supported by direct contact with nature and techniques that spark interest, attitude change, understanding, and enjoyment.
They also have a nursery for propagating species, with the purpose of organizing community reforestation efforts in degraded areas. They have the Olivo de Cumana (Capparis odoratissima), Almendro (Terminalia catappa), Caoba (Swietenia macrophylla),Bucare (Erythrina spp.), Zapote (Pouteria sapota), Flamboyan (Delonix regia),Nogal de Caracas (Juglans venezuelensis), Bucare gigante (Erythrina poeppigiana), Bucare Anauco (Erythrina fusca), Palma Real (Roystonea regia),Bucare Peonia (Erythrina mitis), among others.
