Willows Park Preserve

Willows Park Preserve, located in Radnor Township, Pennsylvania, is on the grounds of the Willows Park, a 47.5-acre estate purchased by Radnor Township in 1973 from the Zantzinger family. Situated in the rolling hills of Villanova and at the end of a long, winding driveway is the beautiful three-story Willows Mansion, which is now being operated as the hub of the arboretum. The mansion was originally designed and built in 1910 by renowned Philadelphia architect Charles Barton Keen for John Sinnott Jr. and his wife; they named it and the property, “Rose Garland”. The Zantzinger family restored many of the landscape features from the original design that visitors enjoy today. After the sale to Radnor Township the property was renamed The Willows in 1973 because of the beautiful willow trees that surround the property. The mansion still contains many of the original plantings from the early nineteen hundreds and the grounds still remain as a vibrant reminder to the rich history this property has to offer visitors. The arboretum features hundreds of mature willows, oaks, maples and sycamores, close to 50 species of trees to view as well as a prized Redwood-Dawn,  Metasequoia glyptostroboides, which is approximately 100’ tall, 60” DBH and is estimated to be 70 years old.
