The Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum has officially been recognized as the longest linear arboretum in the world, a new milestone in urban greening, ecological restoration, and sustainable urban redevelopment. The arboretum stretches over 12.44 miles and is part of one of the largest urban redevelopment projects in the US, redefining the concept of botanical gardens.
Expanding Green Space in the Heart of Atlanta
The Atlanta BeltLine represents one of the most significant urban redevelopment efforts in the United States, repurposing a former freight rail corridor into a multi-purpose trail network. This trail network not only connects over 45 neighborhoods in Atlanta but also offers access to more than 400 acres of parks and 33 miles of greenways, linking nature directly to the urban environment. By the time the city hosts FIFA World Cup 2026™ matches in Atlanta, more than 16 miles of continuous mainline trail will be completed, solidifying the BeltLine’s role as an essential urban and cultural hub.
The BeltLine Arboretum: A Living Showcase of Biodiversity
The 60-acre BeltLine Arboretum is a significant part of the BeltLine project, featuring a diverse collection of trees, shrubs, and wildflowers. With over 647 unique tree and woody shrub species from 106 genera, this living showcase brings nature directly into Atlanta’s urban setting. The BeltLine Arboretum not only helps restore the city’s ecosystem but also highlights the city’s commitment to enhancing urban biodiversity. It features native species that thrive in Georgia’s climate as well as climate-adapted non-native species, which contribute to the creation of a resilient ecosystem.
