Rather than simply discarding the tree, how can its wood be used for something more? In addition to chipping the wood for mulch, how can the legacy of an important specimen be extended and add value to the institution? The use of wood from our trees can be grouped into several different categories, including: 1) art and utilitarian pieces for sale in the gift store, 2) items for educational and historic purposes, 3) pieces that enhance both the natural aesthetic and add ecological value to the arboretum, and 4) scientific and research use.
