African Traditional Medicinal Arboretum Lare
The African Traditional Medicinal Arboretum Lare was officially accredited January 2025 however, extensive work has been carried out on the same piece of land for over 30 years, focusing on the introduction and cultivation of medicinal plant species. This initiative has played a crucial role in preserving indigenous knowledge and promoting the use of traditional medicinal plants for health and wellness.
One of the most significant species cultivated in the arboretum is Artemisia afra, which has been grown for over a decade. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Artemisia afra was widely used for treatment. A three-day regimen, taken in the morning and evening, was reported to result in a negative COVID-19 test after completion of the dosage.
Another valuable species introduced to the arboretum is Prunus africana, known for its potent medicinal properties. This species is widely recognized for its role in treating prostate health issues and other ailments. The arboretum continues to introduce and nurture additional medicinal plant species, reinforcing its mission of conservation and research.
Beyond cultivating medicinal plants, the African Traditional Medicinal Arboretum Lare serves as a center for conservation, education, and scientific research. It provides a sanctuary for indigenous flora, fostering biodiversity and sustainable practices. The Arboretum is also open for the members of the community.
