Description
Elmwood Cemetery is a historic place, founded in 1872, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The master plan for the grounds was designed by prominent landscape architect, George Kessler, who also designed Kansas City's renowned parks and boulevard system.
Based on a 2022 tree inventory, there are 48 unique tree species among over 340 trees at Elmwood Cemetery. There are currently four Kansas City Metro Champion Trees in Elmwood and it is also home to a significant population of sugar maples which create a beautiful setting of fall color each year.
