Lebone II College of the Royal Bafokeng
The Lebone II Royal Bafokeng College management has recognized the importance to protect the environment and to establish a project in an educational way for children to pro-actively engage with the environment.
South Africa has a rich tree diversity with approximately 1700 indigenous tree species. In the Lebone II Arboretum, 68 different indigenous tree species have been recorded. Combretum imberbe (leadwood), Sclerocarya birrea subsp. caffra (marula), Phyllogeiton zeyheri (red-ivory) and Bolusanthus speciosus (tree-wisteria) are all listed as protected tree species in the different geographical regions of the Flora Southern Region [FSA], namely South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and the Kingdom of Eswatini. Combretum imberbe (leadwood), Sclerocarya birrea subsp. caffra (marula) and Phyllogeiton zeyheri (red-ivory) all occur naturally in the Magaliesberg Biosphere Reserve and are tagged accordingly to ensure public awareness on the protected status of these species.
