Randolph-Macon Arboretum
The Randolph-Macon Arboretum is situated on the Randolph-Macon College campus in Ashland, Virginia. The college was founded in 1830 in Boydton, Virginia, but moved to its current location in Ashland, Virginia in 1868. Underneath the canopy of the arboretum, 1,500+ students, faculty, and staff enjoy the 125-acre campus that includes 27 tree species labeled. These trees include, but are not limited to American Sycamore, Maidenhair Tree, Japanese Maple, Flowering Dogwood, Sassafras, Lebanon Cedar, and more. The staple species are the Willow Oaks and the Red Maples. In fact, the first line of the Alma Mater is “Bowered midst its oaks and maples”. Visitors of Randolph-Macon should take the opportunity to walk around and discover the beautiful campus and learn about the trees that provide the beauty to a wonderful college.
