Sherwood Gardens Stratford Green Foundation

Sherwood Gardens Stratford Green Foundation, famous for its annual tulip display, was created in the 1920s and follows Olmsted Design Principles by creating a pastoral space with native plants, rare trees and flowering shrubs that are a fitting backdrop for the tulips. Sherwood Gardens has a wonderful collection of trees, with a growing emphasis on native trees. The collection includes some mature elms, oaks, sweet gums, and bald cypress. A variety of crab apples, cherry trees and magnolias provide spring color along with native redbuds, dogwoods and serviceberry. Specimen American hollies are found along some of the garden borders. More than six acres in size, Sherwood Gardens has no gates, fences or other barriers. Although a private park, the public is invited to stroll at leisure throughout the grounds.
