Spring Grove Cemetery
Spring Grove Cemetery’s arboretum has over 600 trees with many unique specimens. Development of formal collection areas over time is planned with continued focus on the site’s memorial and dedication tree program. As an outdoor classroom, Spring Grove’s tree walk provides community members with the opportunity to better understand, appreciate, and steward trees, and enjoy many plants across the seasons: spring flowering species like serviceberry and crabapple around a central pond and landscape; tri-color beech near an elaborate chapel in summer while catalpas flower hypnotically throughout; fall provides extensive color through an allee of red maple along the western entrance and bright orange-yellow of sugar maple throughout; and winter interest abounds with paperbark maple and river birch exfoliating bark.
